IRS Audits
There are
different types of IRS Audits, some more serious than others.
| An
IRS
Audit by Mail |
|
Sometimes the IRS can not find
all the documentation it needs for your tax return. Usually, this means you
are missing forms such as W-2s or 1099s. In this case, the IRS simply requests
that you mail them the missing information.

| An
IRS
Audit in an IRS office |
|
An audit in
an IRS office is more serious than a simple mail audit. Generally, the
IRS is looking for unreported income or doubts the validity of your
deductions. You will meet with a Tax Examiner who will question you
about your deductions and supporting documentation. This type of audit
may also require you to produce additional documentation, like bank
records, that are not normally included with your tax return.
